Nice find. However, the one at the shop you bought your 458 from has a much nicer one in 375H&H. It may just be the pictures, but that stock looks pretty plain. Good score though..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I don't think you got injured on the price. Prices vary with local markets. That rifle looks in excellent condition. $750 for a Mauser action in 375 H&H ain't shabby.

The lighting is bad in that pic but it has a lighter and glossier finish more like a 70s-80s Remington stock which I like. The best that shop would do is $1400 so at $750 all in I will be content with this one

Appears a nice gun suggesting a fair price! Congrats!
Sidebar: MY Whitworth in .458 Winchester pix in associated Thread below. Great genre rifles!
That said, talking of "long mag" applications, I'm not a fan in standard length mauser actions as typically adapted to accommodate! Too common "make it fit" adaptation in diminished lower locking lug receiver supporting structure, resulting diminished. Don't know if Zastava as Whitworth receiver manufacturer, had 'other' answer for such fate.
Fair comment as conversely, never heard of a mauser receiver structural failure attributable to such alteration.
Just my take! John

The local Asspro has one like that priced at 1199.00. Back in 92 I bought the other version with the shallow v and folding leaves express sights. Dull oil type finish on the classic style stock, still has plastic forend tip and grip cap NO whiteline spacers. Leupy 2 piece bases and rings with a Vari X lll 1.5 x 5 have 550 in it. It loves 235 Speers and 270 horns. It's a big rifle that actual has less felt recoil than my 338 mag or my 35 whelen. Found some 300 gr or maybe 270? WW silvertips for it the other day. Good luck with yours. Mb

I love mine... very similar. I got mine for a steal about 15 years ago from a local place... it had set in someone safe forever and some how in the safe got rust on top of the barrel where it was leaned up (a spot about an inch long and an inch or so wide)... I took it and had it creakoted and it knocked down the shine doing that as well. I have a leupold 1.5x5 on it. Great shooting gun. These east TN deer do not stand a chance with 300 grain round nose bullets... Nice snag on a nice gun... I have always wanted a 458 to go with it

I have a 375 H&H and one that has been re-barrreled to 416 Remington. Great rifles. I also have a Whitworth on 30/06 and several Interarms MarkX's
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

You got what would be a good price on any decent .375 and the Whitworth is definitely decadent. Only change I'd make is to get rid of that front sling swivel and put on a barrel band.

Have your gunsmith order one to fit properly from NECG. They may be soldered after beating them on to a proper fit, or Red Loc-Tited if the proper fit allows. It may be possible to find an Uncle Mike's half-band that is clamped on with the hollow-centered screw that forms the stud hole, and yes, you guessed it, J-B Weld ! I have done both.
The Alaskan-style Whitworth is like yours. The African-style Whitworth had the barrel-banded sling stud.

You did good! I've got the Whitworth Express version in .375, the Whitworth Express version in .30-06 and 7mm Remington Mag. Love the look of the old style safari rifles that these have.

In that case, if the sling stud ever dings your finger, here is some home gunsmithing by J-B Weld. I used an Uncle Mike's on a .375 H&H CZ 550 Magnum. Your barrel is about same contour and would take same "half-band" which is sold to go on shotguns and lever actions usually. Your rifle is probably about a pound lighter than this "hogback" that was re-chambered to .375 WbyMag. The lighter the rifle, the mo'better it is to get the sling stud moved forward of your offhand: Here is the other way. Move stud to forend tip and use epoxy to fill the old stud hole. This was done to another hogback that was re-chambered to .378 WbyMag:

The barrel bands are nice but I've never had a 375 recoil enough to really merit using one.
That's a nice rifle. I'd have the bbl cut back to 22" and get it bedded to prevent any future tang cracks.

Riflecrank you are an incredible resource.
This one is newer and has the barrel lug and bedding looks good and also has the support and bedding at the magwell/trigger web.
I will shoot it before K decide if barrel band is necessary.
