I was curious if any here have ever used Accurate 2015 for reduced loads?

Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook (4th ed) shows Accurate 5744, Reloder 7, and IMR 4198 as common powders for reduced loads. Accurate 2015 is just a bit slower than these powders according to the various burn rate charts.

2015 is a single based, extruded powder that Accurate claims offers excellent ignition characteristics and shot-to-shot consistency. There is a discussion on the castboolits forum by those using it that claim "it burns very very clean even at low pressures and leaves little residue in the bore. It also is extremely flexible as it seems to perform in a very linear fashion in min to max loads."

With the shelves mostly bare of powders around here, Accurate brand powders are some of the few that are currently available. It sounds as if Accurate 2015 could be a good candidate for reduced charge & cast bullet loads.

I was just wondering any one has used it for reduced / lead bullet loads?

Thanks.

I haven't used it for cast much, but I've fiddled with it for mild 308 Win and 300 Savage loads. Right in the same class as 4198, R7, N120/130 for that purpose.

Actually, looking at some load notes, it looks like it performed very similarly to IMR 3031 in my 303 Savage and 300 Savage in terms of charges vs velocities. I haven't messed with it in a while.... apparently my 308 didn't like it much.

I've burned a lot of 2015, and have a good stock in hand still... Its burn rate is real close to RL 7 IMO...

For the slower velocities it has not been as accurate as 4198s, 2400, 4227 and some shotgun powders...such as Blue Dot or Unique..

In loads where the velocity is reduced around 25 to 30 % of max velocity, the accuracy increases dramatically when compared to slower velocities.

This is my observations in my rifles, in various smaller bore cartridges 22 cal, 6mm and 6.5 mm...

In larger bores, I just use 4198, RL 7 and 3031...and IMR 4895..

Played with a lot of reduced loads in the 17 Fireball, just to see what the results might be... many of he same powders worked well in the 17 Fireball also... there are times when I don't need that long of a range with the 17 Fireball... such as for ground squirrels & or varmints in my 1.5 acre semi rural yard....

Interesting.

Thanks for the feedback.
