Quite a few years ago, I remember seeing a thread about how to correctly repair a 99 butt stock. Read some of it, and IIRC seem to recall the was much attention to not just the repair of the cracks, but how to prevent it happening again, or even before a first time occurs.

I think it was up for a considerable length of time. Have tried to find it here, to no avail. Anyone remember it?

My situation is a 300 Savage carbine with 20 inch barrel that has both sides of the stock split behind the tang. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for posting that link. I don't think I could've gone through yet another tutorial on the why's and wherefore's about Savage 99 tang cracks. The subject has been beat to death at least 26 times on the Savage Forum over the years!

Should have posted this months ago. Cracks are repaired, inch and a half groups at 100 yards, and no further problems with the stock.
