eek

I enjoy shooting my Mdl 70 and well used FN light weight 375s. The FN has a skeletonized mag box and action. It scares people, but it's shot even the heaviest loads for 45 years. It's ugly, but it shoots tight groups with anything I have fed it.

Some who looked at it were horrified by the lightening of everything, but it withstands... It is under 8 pounds, scoped with a 4X Bear Cub and Old style Redfield Sr. 2-piece mounts.

Based on those pics, I'd venture some were wondering if it would hold together when the trigger is pulled...

I don't know what the trigger is, but it's a crisp 2.5 pounds with no creep or over-travel. Whoever put the gun together did it to keep it light and shoot tight.

I've put about 300 rounds through it over the years, everything from 270 & 300gr factory to my 235, 270, and 300gr loads I do for my Mdl 70. The old Bear Cub is still clear and has fine CH.

This was built as an old school elk rifle. I'm loading it with 235s to use as a coyote gun.

I had an uncle that passed last year that was a gun nut some on here might have hunted with, his name was Ed Stevenson. Most all of his using guns looked to be the shape of this one. Last year I was able to make a trip to Alaska, and asked his youngest son Ben, if Ed ever sold one of his guns. He told me he never saw him sell one, he might trade one, for something he wanted worse, but never sell one.

I think know the history of this rifle. Louis Romano of Reno put it together for the owner of a small local sporting goods store owner, I believe. He drilled and tapped my new Savage 99F 243 in 1959 and mounted a Weaver K-4.

Louis died in 1977 and did work for my dad...opening chokes, D&T, alter bolts, triggers, etc.

Looks like it is butt-heavy, unless the stock is as hollow in the butt as it is in the forend.
Cheers for the effort to lighten the rifle, well done, except for the possible imbalance of weight ...

Perfectly balanced 6.75-pound .375 H&H Recipe: Light stock with light barrel.
***Pre-'64 M70 action from a .300 H&H donor rifle.
***No. 3 sporter contour barrel that is 0.625" in diameter at the 24" muzzle.
***Brown Pounder or other stock weighing about 1.25# with 1" Decelerator pad.
