How to use a slide rule? I never did, but remember my dad using one in the 60's.

A slide rule was my first calculator. I have often wondered where it went. Probably still in mom's house somewhere.

Yes to a very limited extent.
But that was long ago in a galaxy far far away.

When I was in the Air Force and flying as a flight engineer on EC-121's, I used one extensively, lots of math calculations were needed, calculators had not yet been invented. Dug mine out of a drawer a while back, absolutely could not remember how to do the simplest calculations. Put it back in the drawer.

Yep. In high school physics. In flight school we used the “whiz wheel” to calculate TAS, etc Desk calculators finally came into play in Statistics my sophomore year. Thank goodness. Hand calculating standard deviation, etc was a real b**ch.

My first engineering class in 1968, there was a 6 or 7 foot demonstration slide rule over the blackboard. We got a week of slide rule manipulation. I proudly carried a KE Versalog slide rule in a hard case on my belt right up to gadiation

I saw a poster, the only thing a slide rule does better than a calculator is, stir paint.

I used a slide rule in college 69-73. And I recall the first time another student brought in a battery operated calculator to take a test. It was the size of a Sears catalog.

I have forgotten about a slide rule, until this thread. So, I think I have also forgotten how to use one. Gee, that was a long time ago. I'm going to try to find one.

Used a slide rule, and drafting table when I first started drafting survey work. Then came AutoCadd, and I got very good at that, so good I forgot some of my formulas for some calculations. Or got lazy...

We called them slipsticks back in the day.
Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

I used one until my Senior year in high school. I almost purchased a HP scientific calculator but they were about $300.00 which would be about $1500 today.
