For those who grew up on a farm, what was your favorite tractor? We had an Allis-Chalmers D-17 (gasoline). It was our "big" tractor and, with a D2 cat, did most of the work on 240 irrigated acres. It cost $4000 in 1961 so it would cost about $40,000 today. It pulled a three-bottom plow (barely). Then, dad went "big-time"in the mid-60s. Bought another 160 acres, put it under irrigation and moved up to a used International 806. The 806 was turbocharged and had a TA (torque amplifier as they were called). Problem is the TA was prone to failure and was an expensive repair, so we (kids) were never allowed to touch it. Dad would select fast or slow on the TA and we were under strict orders to leave it there! The other thing I remember is being lectured to let the turbo spool down on the 806 before shutting it off so you didn't "coke" the turbo bearings. The halcyon days of childhood...gone forever. https://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/1/18-allis-chalmers-d17-photos.htmlhttps://www.auctiontime.com/listings/farm-equipment/auctions/online/221653257/1965-international-806

Allis-Charlmers Model D. Crank start. Looked like this one, but less red, more yellow. We had a cut-your-own Christmas Tree farm from about 1972 to 1989. We used it to pull the old cut-off stumps and till the field for the next planting. There were four sub-fields, since it took 4 years to grow one. Monterey Pines. We had a Ford 8N as well with a loader and scraper, but it was a POS. Got stuck all the time. We were constantly pulling that thing out with Model M. Tony

Run it up, until you blow it up, then back it down a bit.

Started out at age 7 running around on a Farmall Super H. Put many, many hours on it before moving up to a Farmall M. Then the big move to a 766 and a 1066 - day and night over the old Farmalls. Hated to see them all sold when the farm was sold but I did not have a need for any tractors.

Ford 8N.
Spent many childhood summertime hours bouncing around on it clipping pastures and baling hay.
No shirt or shoes, just a pair of shorts on. Bottle of water and a gas can left in the shade.
Now I see a Dermatologist every 6 months. Heh!

A 1983 Versatile 835.
Pulling a 24' grain drill or toolbar.
We still have the tractor, in fact had it running yesterday pushing snow.
That model Cummins is a champ and the tractors are pretty good as well.

I can identify with no shirt and no shoes on the back field while wearing cutoff jean shorts. Hell of a tan by Fall each year. And yes, I see a Dermatologist every couple years for a check up.

Farm all 400. TA and live power. So much better than the H and Super M. Always wanted Dad to get a bigger tractor but he had me to do all the work so he figured he didn't need one.

We had a Farmall H that I started driving at about 8 years old. Spent a lot of time as a teen and early twenties on a JD 3020 and an IH 574. I now have a Case IH 685. Faves were always Grandpa's JDs - 2 A's and a G. Got to ride along with him a lot as a kid. Drove them a little as a teen. I now have a '39 JD B.

Started out on a wide front WD45. Later as things progressed I spent a lot of time on a D17 Series III, D19, 190XT, and a 180 as more of a feed and chore tractor than field model. That 180 was my favorite.

I was just out of high school when they first came out but my favorite tractor has always been a 7140 Magnum. I started out putting down preplant chemical when I was 14, when I graduated high school a guy told he put me in his best tractor if I would put down his chemical. That Magnum kept me out of about 95% of the scheitt jobs. I was always working doing important things while the dumbazzes were doing the dumbazzs things Once we figured out they wouldn't run hot if you cranked them up to 225HP we was off the the races with the Magnums. Turning them to 245 and putting metric rubber on them made a good little dirt tractor pulling 8 and 12 yard pans.

3T D7. Many an acre on those. A buddy of mine's dad piled with a 3T, his brothers ran a 7F and a 48A with cutters. We had two 48A's and a 17A. I was born about 40 years too late.
