anybody ever loaded any tracers? I got several tracers in a buy of a bunch of reloading stuff this weekend and was just curious if anybody's loaded these. I've got data for it using WC 844 I believe it was supposed to be very similar to h335.. does anybody have any first-hand experience to share

Have not loaded with that. Have with 852 and 55 tracers but who knows where that load data is.

The pull down ones, don't all have the stuff on the back end any more and not all of them light FWIW.

You might try gibrass. Never know what you'll find there.

Couple decades ago friend an I loaded M196 red tip pulls and 55 gr fmjs for a MG shoot. Used 24 gr H335. All went downrange. Think 748 or bulk equivalent would make sense for M856 pulls.

AA 2230 works too.

There used to be "hot" and "cool" lots of WC 844 and 846 on the market. The hot lots were supposedly for tracers and had a higher flame temp. Harder on barrels too.

Sure miss the days of buying 844 & 846 for $45/jug. frown

Now you did it - brought back memories of good times. Think I'll cry. laugh

during my Google search ( you know it's never wrong 🤢) some are trying to say 844 is the same as H335 and loaded for 556.
846 was loaded for 7.62 and is the same as BL-C2 . I have no idea if that is correct but it does sound reasonable

If they would sell it affordable in 200 pound containers like our WC852 I'd buy...

The information I have is that WC844 and H335 are the same formulation. H335 is selected from lots that meet the burn rate specification for H335. Where as WC844 has wider lot to lot variations typical of bulk canister powders.

I have loaded a few thousand tracer rounds for recreational machine gun use and found that IMR4064 worked best to get them lit.
Unfortunately, I don't recall the other powders that I tested at the time.

Cool. That part never entered my mind RE the correct power to light that tab. Figured anything burning like rifle powder does should do the trick. Learned something new as usual.

Does the tracer compound leave any corrosive material in the bore?

not the best person to answer that cuz I've not fired any yet but my research is indicating that is one reason why generally loaded four rounds one tracer round four rounds one tracer around was to help keep the more cleaner and in better shape.
