I prefer the original knives made by Melvin in Kansas. They are made by his son-in-law now I believe, in Florida.

I bought 2 of their knives at shows in OH and PA back in the 90's when they were made in Kansas. Nice and well made knives, a skinner and a fillet model. The fillet I gave to a fishing buddy and always regretted not buying another, ditto on the skinner but in both instances they were good friends that also enjoyed quality knives. I can't imagen the quality or materials have changed because they moved to FL. Glad I saw this, now I know where to get another!

From comments here, it seems to be a different maker.

I bought a fillet knife from them in the 90's. Was a pain to get sharp and had to use diamond stones to get the edge to what I want. I want to say they use S110v but not sure. Other than being hard to sharpen it's a good knife that I would buy again. On their website it says they moved to Florida.

Other than being hard to sharpen it's a good knife that I would buy again. On their website it says they moved to Florida. Melvin was an early D2 proponent after the hype from the famous D2 makers. He later was a dean of CPMS60V, also called 440V. I have 5 or 6 and never found them difficult to sharpen. YMMV. The move to Florida was Steve and Tess Greene, Melvin's SIL and Daughter who, IMO, did a wonderful job keeping Melvin's legacy alive, switching to S30V...and doing it well.
