Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

Had one of those "I can talk over anybody" bastards for a neighbor, also had a CB in my boat in my back yard One day I taped the key down and asked him "You can talk, but can you hear anybody?". Didn't touch my radio for a week, killed my radio, but shut him down for a while

FCC required the use of a callsign in addition to a purchased license ($20 in the early 1970s, reduced to $4 on March 1, 1975); however, when the CB craze was at its peak many people ignored the requirement and invented their own nicknames (known as "handles"). Lax enforcement of the rules on authorized use of CB radio led to widespread further disregard of the regulations (such as for antenna height, distance communications, licensing, call signs, and transmitter power). Individual licensing came to an end on April 28, 1983.

I was one of those that disregarded antenna height and power limits. Had a set of Moonrakers 80ft up on a tower with a rotor. Ran a Phantom 500 two stage linear, with an output of 500 watts on AM and 1500+ watts on SSB. Legal was 4 or 5 watts. I stayed up all night monitoring REACT**channel 9 listing for fishing boats out in the Gulf that would occasionally get into trouble. We were right on the beach and I could reach a long ways out to help out the boats. Broadcasted right through my neighbors TV's and telephones when I'd fire up the linear. That was long before CB's got popular, once Smokey and the Bandit came along it all turned into a bunch of BS. Hurricane took out my tower and that was the end. ** REACT (Radio Emergency Associated Communication Teams) began as a CB radio Emergency Channel 9 monitoring organization across the United States and Canada in 1962. Initially, the primary role of REACT volunteers was to monitor Channel 9, the CB Emergency Channel. Duties included communications after disasters (such as tornadoes and floods), and in some places before disasters (storm spotting). The original purpose, to monitor CB, has largely gone by the wayside.
