So I’m getting ready to retire and I need to sell a few of my rifles and some pistols as well. I have two Scout rifles. One is the original Scout, 18 1/2 inch barrel, presently has the 10 round mag kit on it. I’ve got it topped with a Nightforce 2.5 x 10 compact. On good days it will shoot 1/2 MOA with my hunting load. It’s a great deer rifle out to 450 yards or maybe a bit more. With 20 rounds on board it weighs about 8.5 lbs or thereabouts. These rifles are readily available. My other Scout is the Scout Tactical. 23 1/2 inch heavy barrel. It’s got the full length rail and adjustable cheek piece. Presently topped with a 3.5 x 15 NXS. It’s HEAVY. 12 lbs with ammo. You would think for hunting a no brainer go with the light gun. Thing is this one will hold 1 MOA out to 850 yards, maybe more but that’s the farthest I’ve tested it. These rifles are rare. I think they still make them but I don’t see any on the American market. Which one would you sell? I know which way I’m leaning but would love to hear your opinions.

Both 308?
I really like the original rifles and use my sons 308 a bit. Weight is good. The ten shot mag would be a plus.
12lb rifle for me hunting would have to be above 500 cal.
I like the NF NXS scopes.
Happy hunting.

I had one in 376 Steyr that I used to take a few Whitetails. It is definitely enough gun for Deer :-)

Sell the big heavy "rare" one. It does nothing special a dozen different rifles couldn't do with less weight, easier accessibility to parts and service. You are loving a model T and wondering why there aren't more driving around to support your feelings. My Tikka CTR will hold less than 1 moa out to 800 yards. It's not that hard nowadays with good kit.
I own a Steyr Scout .308 like you, but without the 10 round mag thing. I do not see the need for that large appendage hanging down when there is a 2nd 5 round mag 12" away stowed in the buttstock. If you need that much firepower get an AR10, M1a, whatever. You are loading down a system designed for something different

I agree, the scout was designed to be a midweight, easy to field, quick shooting platform with the ability to stow extra ammo. The concept was never to be a HB sniper rifle. Sell the scout tactical.

Thanks for the replies. Selling the tactical is the way I’m leaning. It really is a nice rifle but I use it only from the bench. Hard to let go of it though.
