We’re weird weather and unexpected spring snow in the lowlands but nothing close to a blizzard. 12 or so years ago we were taking the kids to Disneyland and we had an early flight on the morning of April 15th. When I opened the door to put the luggage in the truck I was really surprised to see 8+” of snow on everything. That was the latest snow of any consequence that I can recall in 52 years here.
It’s been a wet and snowy winter out west this year. Stay safe guys!

I saw a couple of guys on Twitter, I think they are in the Dakota territory. They were talking about lining up semi trailers with hay down the side for wind break, straw underneath for calves. People say the bad times make you appreciate the good times... I find [bleep] weather just makes for [bleep] attitude.

They were coming to the conclusion they should calve earlier, more cold, less snow. I have given up talking to people about calving dates. Hell I just have 4 spring calves so far, and I'm on the MO,AR line.

My friend in central Kansas tells me they are still terribly dry/drought conditions which seems crazy given the winter moisture (records in many areas) the West has received from north to south this year.
Snowed ALL day today in N. Utah... hate to think how much they got up high in the mountains. I bought FEMA and "excess" flood insurance recently for the first time ever. The house has been here ~45 years and we/family have never even had to sandbag BUT I saw what happened around us in '83/'84 and 2011. We are past those levels now even before this current set of storms! I hope it will only be some money "wasted" but I could not afford to not bet against that this year. More moisture forecasted through the next week.
Dems must have figured out a "new" cloud seeding strategy!

Some-places in eastern ND might get 18 plus inches Is the wind as big an issue with "spring" storms? 18" sounds scary! 7" w/ high winds was brutal up in NW arctic Alaska a few weeks ago from the pics I saw.

It can be. Usually the snow is wet heavy stuff, but 35-55 mph winds will move it.

I have a dozen right now and am not supposed to start until the 25 of May. We have 50-60 but we also start around March 20. It's been so cold that up until last Friday I didn't ear tag any calves.
