I have an older Kimber 82 in 17K hornet. It has a dovetailed receiver and Leupold 3/8” ring mounts fit it. I just bought a very early (two digit SN) Kimber 82 in 22K hornet. I can’t get 3/8” ring mounts to fit. Is this operator error, or did Kimber make different dovetails?

Pretty sure the dovetail is the same- the problem is you need rings with the radius on the mating surface of the rings where it meets the receiver. A lot of the listed rings, including most Leupolds, are flat and need to be radiused to fit. I'm pretty sure the last time I bought rings for a Kimber I had to get the ones for a CZ 457 or similar because they are radiused. I've radiused some rings for a friend that were Leupolds because they wouldn't do it in their custom shop and wouldn't take returns...

I think have a set of Kimber bases & 1" rings from a Kimber of Oregon 82. I can check when I get home early next week.

Please do check. I need high ring mounts. OSU, I just saw you said bases and rings. My gun is not drilled and tapped for bases. It’s a Grover dovetail. Thanks

Talley can fix you up. Call them, tell them what you need, they will send the right ones. I did just this, worked perfectly.

Kimber 82 rails are 11mm wide, not 3/8". Other than using original Kimber or early Warne Premier rings, the Talley rings for Anschutz rifles (which have 11mm rails too) are your best bet.

Does anyone make a good Picatinny rail adapter for the Kimber 82? thinking about a swfa 6x for it.

I think Commandment #11 says something like “Thou shalt not put a rail on a Kimber of Oregon”.

It’s admittedly a very minor point, but the grooves on the Kimber of Oregon Model 82s are actually 7/16” vice 11mm. The 11mms work just fine, and are close to 7/16”.
