Had one of these years ago and traded it off regrettably. Found another today. Pretty good little deer rifle at woods ranges in 44 mag.

Yes. Gave my son one a few years ago. "Shakiri" 44 mag. He killed the first rifle shot deer on our Illinois farm in about a century. Have the 45-70, other boy has 30-30. In the mix is a CVA Count 44, two TC Contender carbines (30-30, 223, and 22LR)

That rifle looks like it would be a lot of fun with cast bullet loads.

Those are a good rifle. 100-125 yards is about as far as I've killed anything with one. I had poor luck with the cast I tried to use and finally slugged the bore and found the lead I was using was too small. Needs a 433 min to do decent. The jacketeds I've used do just fine and have taken several animals.
I have and use several Handis and they all do a good job. Shame they got so expensive, especially after all those people would talk about what a big pos they are. Nowadays a barrel sells for what you could just about buy 3 used Handis for

They're awesome. My niece stole mine. It was the 16.5" trapper model.

I like single shots. I have an H&R 357 Mag, H&R 30/30, and a Henry 44 Mag.

I got a New England Arms .45/70 laminate stock with a Redfield 2 1/2X a few months ago. I was told they only made this stock for 1 year. I am shooting the RCBS .45-300 FN and looking forward to hunting with it this season.

This one had a 3-9 Burris FF2 , too much scope for a 44 in my opinion. I had an extra long tube Burris 1.75-5 ×20 I had been saving for something like this. Should work pretty well

I've had a bunch over the years and still have a few.

The post 2008ish (extractor model) chamber and bore were much more consistent. If you found a good one, it should shoot great.

The one I have is one of the last of what was made before H&R went defunct. Yes it's an extractor model. I was lucky and picked it up on a clearance sale at a sporting goods chain store. They had a sale of all in stock Handi Rifles for I believe it was $179.00 . I had a coupon for $20.00 off any purchase over $100.00 and presented that. They didn't want to honor it, but there wasn't any disclaimers on the ad or the coupon, so they honored it. I wish I'd bought all of them and got a loan or something to buy more It's been a good useful gun with no problems. Everything that received a bullet from it went down and didn't need another

I bought a 44 handi-rifle the first year Indiana legalized handgun cartridges in rifles for deer hunting. Wonderful woods and treestand rifle. It’s never failed me. I feel it’s perfect for southern Indiana deer hunting. Two of my sons also have 44 handi-rifles and had the same results. If that deer is within 50 yards I would rather have the 44 over any of my larger centerfires cept’ maybe my 30-30.

One can extend their range quite a bit by hand reaming it to 445 Supermag. I had one years ago and wished I hadn't sold it. It hit like the Hammer of Thor. Deer folded under the power of 265gr Hornady bullets at nearly 2000fps.

I've seen the ballistics for those, probably a great round but I have a Marlin 444 outfitter in the back of the safe if I want to drive .429 bullets faster than a 44 mag. I just like the handi rifles. Wish they hadn't quit making them. I miss the days of walking gun shows and picking up any caliber handi under $200.

I struggle not to live in the past too much though. Just an occasional walk down memory lane keeps me happy. Like almost every hunter and shooter, I want to kick myself for selling off some (not all) of my Handis. I miss my old 308 Survivor the most.
