I had an aortic dissection 9 years ago and they thought I was going to need a similar replacement valve but the surgeon saved the original and rebuilt it and the aortic root.
The first two weeks are going to suck but after that it wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. It sounds stupid but you need to keep blowing into that stupid lung exercise contraption to keep your lungs clear. And get up and walk as much as you can. As a back up plan talk to your surgeon ahead of time about a pacemaker and if they do need to implant one that you want it in your non dominant shoulder if possible, so you can shoot a shotgun or rifle again after you recover. Sometimes they don’t have a choice but if they do you probably won’t be awake to ask.

L I had aortic root replacement 6 years ago with valve repair but the repair started failing immediately at a rate of about 10% regurgitation per year. They will sew my new valve into my root graft if it is still in good shape.
