I believe he was trying to use the hydraulic cylinders on the front of the trailer to raise the trailer deck hoping to clear the tracks. He's pulling a removable gooseneck trailer and the hydraulic cylinders used to hook and unhook the trailer can raise the deck a few more inches when you max out the stroke of the cylinders. He was trying to pull the pin on the fifth wheel to save the tractor.

Driver started to "beat feet" pretty quick. Wonder what he was checking on the rig before he took off though? Lunch kit maybe?
Jeff Trying to release the fifth wheel and move the tractor. He probably didn't back up the tractor to release the pressure so he could not pull the fifth wheel.

Something he should have done before he crossed the tracks, not on them.

He was scared and only had a few seconds to pull that pin. At least he had the brains to run away. He is now seeking a new career.
