SRV is fine with me, though Bowie was way more better with Carlos Alomar. EVH only worked well with proper VH, and that stopped in 1984 with the end of the original line up. Gonna go off on a tangent and say FZ work for the good stuff. Gotta love that Telefunken U-47 with laaaaatheeeeer. it's a way of life.

If I HAD to choose I'd tip the hat towards EVH. Not because I don't think SRV was a smoking bad MFer, he clearly was and I love everything he recorded.. ..but... EVH came out of nowhere for me (yes, later I realized the Holdsworth influence, etc) and he sounded so fresh. SRV was working within the blues rock idiom and though his execution was miraculous, the language (chord changes, harmony, etc) is pretty restricted. There are X number of blues riffs.. I'm very happy we had both to inspire us.

Never was a big VH fan. Too much EVH starts to grate on my nerves. Like 3 or 4 songs from the original group, but I liked Van-Hager better. 😬 My favorite, though is the remake they did of Roy Orbinson’s “Pretty Woman”
There’s not one SRV song I dislike. He’ll always be the best IMO. Played a beat to schitt old Strat and old Fender Tube amps. Didn’t need a bunch of “special effects, either. And unlike EVH, SRV could actually sing. Ooops. I forgot to mention that Texans don't get a vote unless it's for Lyle Lovett. So, one for Lyle. LOL. Just like SRV, nearly everything is better in TX. The Truth hurts. 😜 Well, except for maybe public land access and huntin???

I don't listen to either all that much these days. Certainly couldn't choose a fav though.
What say ye? I say it was the drugs they did. Differing combinations at different times of life ya' know. Maybe they drank different whiskeys too?

I'll tell you what, numbnuts, you show me irrefutable proof that either SRV or EVH used the term "geetar", and I will publicly apologize and say that you're a God of guitar knowledge. If you can't find that proof, then you acknowledge that you're full of bovine excrement. Deal ?

Montana starts a wrasslin match It’s a funny thing how horned up guys get about my opinions on guitars and guitarists. So much so in this particular thread, a guy nobody has ever heard of shows up pissed off about the way I spelled “geetar” as if I was saying SRV or EVH would call it that. LOL WTF? He probably pheasant hunts with Clapner.

And I’m sure Camuglia will be along any minute to whine about Vai being way better than both SRV and EVH.

My wife and i saw SRV on our first date about 1976 at the Soap Creek Saloon. It was early on with Double Trouble. He wasn't famous yet. The place would hold about 200 people, if the dirt road wasn't wet. Lou Ann Barton sang blues and Stevie and the band tore it up. All that stuff is under concrete and asphalt now. Just sayin'.....
