If you had an opportunity to buy a gun for a great price, but it was used in a suicide, would you? Some friends have said "its bad juju", I am leaning towards "its just metal, it doesn't know or care". What do you think?

I’d give it a real good cleaning and then not think twice about it.

I wouldn’t. For me it’s something that I’d think about and it would take away from my enjoyment of it. It obviously isn’t the guns fault but I wouldn’t knowingly want it.

I have a skilsaw that always cuts too short or crooked, bad juju, I'm gonna dump it on some unsuspecting Rube.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

It is all in your mind. Had one once for a short time. All I could think about is the guy that killed himself.

I handled some suicide clean ups back in the 80's-90's and a few were with guns. I've no interest in related firearms.....

No. Don't care if it's a "good deal". If I liked the gun, I would buy one at a shop.

If it was a good deal or a firearm I really wanted, I'd buy it and not think twice.
Before I purchased my house, one of the previous owners blew his brains out in the guest bathroom.
Been here 21 years, now. Hasn't bothered me at all.

Pass, unless it was a HIGH end gun! grin

Due to the increased price of ammo, don't expect a warning shot...

Something I needed / wanted, I'd keep it.

Pocket a good ROI if not.

Wouldn't care. People buy military surplus all the time. Lots of those would have stories to tell if they could talk.

Everyone sees it differently but to me that’s part of the cool factor of a military rifle. The unknown, that some draftee holding it and fighting for his country with honor, no matter which side that he served on could have shot someone with it. Something that I knew had been used in an act of despair and depression that I can’t imagine I’d pass on.

You ain't seen no haints there? wink

OP, thanks for the reminder. I have a Rem 700 I need to get to work on. Install a Timney trigger unit, maybe refinish it if it shoots. Got it from a friend who's ex's previous man had hidden it in a trailer as he was basically committing suicide by cop as I heard the story. I also picked up his Model 12 Win. She wanted nothing to do with them when they came back from the cops. The 700 missing a bolt which I have addressed.

The gun didn’t do the killing, the person that pulled the trigger did.

My logical side agrees with you, but I'd still be creeped out a little.

Hickok45 has discussed this a few time vis a vis guns that have been used in wars, such as his two Mauser rifles. Not sure what he'd say about a suicide gun.
