Plumdog,
The difference between the Conetrol rings and the S&Ks is while the Conetrols are 3-piece, the S&Ks are a single "strap" of steel, thin enought wrap around the scope tube, which makes them easier to install--though more so for some people than others. I never had much difficulty with Conetrol rings, but some do.
The Gentry rings were even thinner than the S&Ks, saving a little more weight.

My FN Mauser 30-06 has worn them for years with zero issues. I'm pretty sure I have a set of unused bases for the M700 that I will not use. here's the winner!

Yes, they are the standard 6-48 screws. The rings self align with the scope tube by design. Both front and rear rings are aligned by coned set screws mating to a vee tapered slot in the rings. They can be centered to the base itself or offset slightly to center windage if needed. I like to offset the rear slightly to better clear the bolt handles on my pre-64s. So if I understand correctly, there should be no pinching or binding the scope tube. Thanks for all the pictures, will be ordering a couple sets. EdM: if the bases are matte, I'd be interested. They are gloss.

The Gentry rings were even thinner than the S&Ks, saving a little more weight. "I see" said the Blind Man. The "invisible" joint in the Conetrol rings is craftsmanship you don't see too much of these days. Do you have to spread the S&K ring a little to get it around the scope?

Yes--which is exactly what was needed with the Gentry rings.
Never had any difficulty or problems doing that with either, even with rings used on more than one rifle--or when changing scopes on the same rifle.

What rifles are they going on? Beautiful rifle you posted, the rings and bases look great. To answer your question; I initially plan on putting them on a Remington Model 7 & 700. Both of these rifles are non-magnum calibers.

I have S&Ks on several rifles ranging from .22s to .340 Weatherby. Never had an issue with them and I like the weight and looks…..for what that’s worth. I live about 20 miles from where they make them and know the owner pretty well - he is an extremely knowledgeable and talented machinist - and a “gun guy” so he has a lot of general knowledge about many different type of firearms. He has helped me out with many gun related issues (requiring machining and metallurgy) over the years and seems to like the challenge. All this and he’s just a good guy!
I think you’ll be pretty happy with them.

I had a set on a custom 700 I built. I had them cera coated too. Never a problem. Very slick. I use cheap Weaver type stuff now, only because I like to put a backup peep on my rifles, and quick detach those S&K's are not.

The rings on my Pete Grisel "Mauser" were pretty thin.

S &K Rings and mounts Best looking things out there and rock solid. In use on home made camo'd Abolt 260 Rem holding a Vx-3. Nice lightweight rig with a rubbery slogan sling makes carrying a pleasure.
