I found an interesting scope the other day. It is a Burris Signature 3-9x40 gloss scope made in the USA. The glass on this thing is great and seems better than my late 90s gloss Leupold Vaxri-XIII 3.5-10. I vaguely remember these scopes being advertised in the late 80s or early 90s? Anyone remember these scopes or own one?

I don't own one, but they were at or near the top of the Burris line back then. IIRC there was also a Signature Select.

Not a 3-9, but I have a 4X40....

I have a 3-9x40 matte finish Signature with posi-lock and lighted dot duplex. The glass is better then the Vari-X III's, not by much, and they were a strong competitor in the mid 90's. My main complaint is their limited mounting range in front of the turret assembly.

Back then, Burris was bad about that. One of my complaints as well. I'm glad they corrected that with the FFII.

Which makes them an excellent scope for the Ruger #1.

Yes, I remember them back in the 90's and even early 2000's. A buddy used to swear by them and I was always content with my FFII's. The gloss Burris and Leupold rifle scopes really hold their value. You'd be surprised what they are selling for on ebay. I ran across a gloss Burris signature 3-12x44 with adjustable objective the other day for $200.00. It was in like new condition. A very beautiful scope with the cool Burris medallion on it. However, knowing the mounting length on the tube ahead of the turret is less than ideal for most rifles, I passed on it. That is a scope I could possibly double my money on, if I sold it on ebay though.

Great scopes, tough as nails, very good glass. Downsides are the forward turrets can make mounting tough, (or help, depending on the situation), and they were a bit heavy. I wasn't a fan of the older Fullfield line, but these older Signature were great and superior to the Signature Select that followed them.

I own a Burris signature 3-9x40 matte. The glass is comparable to my Leupolds. If I remember correctly the Burris is slightly heavier than a comparable Leupold.
