Headed out shortly. Bought a tag a few hours ago while still at work, got home and got all of my gear together and head out in a bit.

Population in our area isn't near what it used to be so it may be a 1 bird limit on my place this season.

Hope to hear a few birds around.

Probably 20 gobbles before 6. Maybe 5 more by 6:20. We are very low on turkeys around this area.

Bud says he may not even hunt as his normal spots are pretty thin too.

I will hunt one easy bird. If nothing is happening I can slip around mushroom hunting or try to catch a few spawning crappie.

Stumbled upon 2 morels in my usual spot.

Dad and I are back again this morning. Yesterday had a few birds around us gobbling but never came in.

Just heard the first gobble of the morning.

The bird I had wanted to start with this morning either wasn't where he was yesterday, silent or moved about 1/2 west. 4 or 5 about 1/4 west and south over there gobbling on the roost and silent at fly down.

One bird forever away to the north gobbling and a hen in here about 50 yards up in a tree not far from where I got a hen off of the nest last weekend. Not sure if there was a silent gobbler w her or if she sits in the tree for a bit, checks the nest then either waits on a gobbler or goes to one later in the day.

I think tomorrow morning I will be in a natural ground blind in that area to see what she does.

Not real hard at it here as birds are few and far between.

Cooper.

Had one on the roost probably 400 yards out on the neighbor’s. Dang thing flew down and went silent. Of course it’s stayed on the neighbors.

Supposedly 30° out there this AM. This will definitely be the coldest morning I have ever turkey hunted.

Should be interesting.

Edited: Truck showed 25° down in the bottoms.

No harm done to the turkey population this AM.

Ended up being under 3 hens at daylight. They pitched out about 200 yards across an overgrown field to a cattle pasture. Once they were down there was 1 gobble from where they lit. Never saw them or the Tom.

Moved back across the road to my place and sat in a blind for the remainder of the day.

I heard maybe 20 gobbles this morning, none closer than a mile, probably more. The 4 or 5 I heard Saturday and Sunday were silent other than that 1 gobble. Thinking henned up right now.

A couple of views from the blind. Still have a lot of cedar and hedge removal to do. Quite a few hickory trees as well.

The last bird I killed this year had hens and never gobbled. I had 8 hens pitch down and walk out into the field right in front of me about 20 yards away. No gobbles but out walked 3 gobblers right to them and I shot mine at about 20-25 yards about 5 minutes after the hens flew into the field.
Find the hens, the boys will be around.
The good Lord blessed me to be at the right spot at the right time and that was about the fastest hunt I have ever been on. First hen showed up at 6:02 and gobbler was down before 6:10

I know where the hens are. They roost on property that I have permission to hunt but fly out onto another neighbor who I have not talked to yet.

A few gobbles around for about 30 minutes this morning. Did have a bird fly down here in the timber about an hour ago, no talk though.

3 deer cut across the little field I am watching, momma and last years fawns it looked like.

I hope to hunt until about 11:30. Close on construction loan for new house at 1.
