ID LOVE TO FIND a SHORT/LIGHT WEIGHT LEVER ACTION in caliber 500S&W, IM sure it would be a great hiking weapon to carry thru the back country where your not primarily hunting, but you want to be armed and a pistols not allowed or your just not comfortable with your skill level with a pistol when your BUTT might be on the line. (I know several places where pistols are not looked at as legal or favored choices and a shotgun is just not my choice) now I currently carry a marlin 44 mag loaded with 310 hard cast for that and its deadly ,accurate, but a 500 S&W would be a big improvement power wise in a short range defence weapon in the back country

No. The 500 S&W has an operating pressure of 52,000 PSI or more and a rather large cross sectional area interfacing the bolt. The Marlin 1894 action is ill-suited to handle the cartridge.

Try a Rossi/Legacy Puma in .454 or .480 Ruger.

Yes, it is the Wild West Guns 04. It is based on the Marlin 336 action but beefed up in the receiver in the barrel/receiver area and the lockup area.

That's one ugly lever action. I think they'd have to pay me to take that one home! The renforcment of the receiver reminds me of the old Winchester 94 Big Bore's.

Not Long after release in 2003, te .500 S&W was upgraded by SAAMI to 60,000 psi. This was after the masses discovered that the original large pistol primers were inadequate to ignite the .308 sized powder charges. The primers were changed to large rifle and the primer pockets deepened to accomodate them. Interestingly, SAAMI does not list the primer type in their formal specifications. JW
When truth is ignored, it does not change an untruth from remaining a lie.

.
Why not just buy a Marlin Guide Gun in 450 Marlin caliber? It can be handloaded to more than you will want shoot often and it will kill anything on the planet.
The Marlin 1894 action is too small for the 500 S&W and it would never withstand the abuse of the very short pressure curve produced by high intensity pistol cartridges of the size and pressure of the 454/500 family.
