Is HP-38 and W231 the same powder. All loads I have seen show the same load info.

It is the same powder, the only difference will be lot-to-lot variation.

I've used 231/HP38 for a long time. It meters very well for me and shoots pretty clean at moderate pressures.
Loading up 9mm now with it. 125gr JHP and 125gr JFP Zero's. Found 2k of them looking for something else, I need to reorganize my pile of chit.

I have become a fan of 231, loading it to about 1050 fps in the .44 Magnum with a hardcast 265 gr bullet. Shoots beautifully out of a 4” S&W 29-2.

I've loaded 231 & HP38 in .44 Special, it did an adequate job. Easy to meter and accuracy was good, I've since gone back to Unique as my go to powder in both .44 Special and .44 Magnum.
