I need schooled up on underground water tanks. Basically any problems you've had and what if anything you would have done differently.

I could use some recommends on tanks and pump setups also. I was thinking a 3 to 5 hundred gallon tank. It wouldn't bother me to just drop a submersible pump twice a month and fill my tanks twice a month if I had to.

The situation.

I'm going to buy a lot to put my camper that MIGHT get used 6 months out of the year. I know from experience, that I'm going to use less than 200 gallons of water a month.

Rural water just hit me for $4,000.00 for a tap and possibly $1,200.00 to cross the road. This is on a 4 inch line in BFE with straight dirt, no rock and the road is a pretty narrow chat road.

There is a water station a few miles away where water costs $1.00 per 100 gallons. By my math, that's about $12.00 a year which is less than one water bill.

I'm thinking it's a lot smarter to just put my own tank in the ground and let them keep their tap and monthly water bill.

My underground storage tank is 4 inches in diameter and 300 feet deep. It fills to within 20 feet of the surface, and holds about a gallon per foot. It's called a well!

Save yourself some trouble and buy a cheap trailer for your tank, park it in a shed if you need to hide it.

Gotta keep it sanitary, chlorination would be advisable.

That's the other option, just using a small tank. A lot of people are using the IBC Totes on a stand.

Poly tanks of every shape and size are cheap.

The IBC tote is probably a good idea, @ 275 gallons it's going to weigh over 2000 pounds full so you're not going to just drag it out of your pickup and move it around.

You also aren't going to want to store a lot of water for a extended time.

Alage grows and bacteria can be your demon.

I'd chlorinate every time I filled up. Read up on doing so, it doesn't take much, do it exactly to measure.

If you had two tanks, used one for hauling and elevate the other you could just fill your RV holding tank as needed from gravity pressure.

About 15 to 20 feet of elevation could give you around 10 PSI.

You could chlorinate in the tank you haul, let it set 24hrs and then pump it up into your storage tank.

It will aerate as you pump which will help dissipate the clorine taste/oder.

Pumping the freshly chlorinated water will also help keep the hoses and pump you use clean and sanitary.
