It looks like I will be heading back to Alaska for brown bear. My first trip for the same was with my tweaked SS M70 375 H&H. I used a VX3 1.5-5 then and found it lacking late in the day when the bear seemed to be about. Maybe 5 or 6 years ago I acquired the subject scope, boxed, scope covers and all paperwork for $150 from a guy very heavy in tactical stuff. "Just take it", OK. It appears unused and with the 32mm objective should solve my light issue. It has Posi-Lock. I'd appreciate hearing from users of this scope and it there any tricks sighting in with the Posi-Lock.
Conduct is the best proof of character.

I thought Burris Scopes had a patent on "Posi-Lock". I had one of those on a BLR never had one bit of an issue with it. unscrew the poislock slightly, make your adjustment and then snug up the posilock

I have the same scope without Posi-Lock. It has better light transmission and more clarity to my eye than the Leupolds I have other than my Big Bore 3x. I had a Signature 1.5x6 with Posi-Lock and it took longer to zero if using the Posi-Lock feature like Oldelkhunter posted. Once zeroed I have no doubt the zero wouldn't change.

I never really understood the function of the posi-lock or how to use it.

It is a steel peg that when used, locks the erector tube. It provides a third pressure point, the windage and elevation adjustors the other two.

You don't have to use the Posi-lock, but if it's there, might as well. The two biggest problems with them is that people tended to over-tighten the screw and not follow instructions when sighting in. To tighten, just turn it until you feel contact and it's snug. Cranking it down can damage the erector. The second, and more common problem, is that folks would sight in, then tighten, which shifts the point of impact. They would then bitch and send the scope back when there was nothing wrong, it was user error. As mentioned above, to sight in - shoot, loosen, adjust, snug it up again, shoot again, etc. I owned a couple posi-lock over the years and they were great. One of them fell out of a ladder stand and managed to bang the stand on the way down. It was still sighted in when I tested it.

bersh is spot on.
The Signature Safari lives on my 416 Rigby after several other scopes died there.

I had one for several years, and used it for quite a bit of hunting and load/rifle testing--among other things when handloading a .416 Rigby up to .4i6 Weatherby pressures and velocities. The two cartridges have just about exactly the same powder capacity, so are capable of the same ballistics when loaded to the same pressures. The Burris held up perfectly, and the only reason I don't have it anymore is somebody at Burris eventually asked me not to mention it, after they quit making it.....
