Gentlemen,

Can somebody educate me or send me to a link explaining some of the LC and other headstamps on military brass? For years, I have seen guys pay a premium for certain years of Lake City brass. I think the general consensus was the quality and toughness of the Lake City brass vs other 223/556 brass. Is that still the case? If so, what years are considered the better brass?

Does anybody have any experience loading brass marked LC 223? Is this LC brass built to a lesser spec than the other LC brass intended for 556 pressure loads?

I recently purchased a couple thousand primed cases of factory loaded pull down brass. Mixed headstamps with a small percentage of commercial 223 brass but most marked 556. Been sorting by headstamp with intensions of loading in large groups for my bolt action prairie dog and ground squirrel shoots with all of the odd stuff loaded for the AR.

Sharing your knowledge would but much appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Thanks Swifty,

That helps me identify some of these oddball headstamps. Hopefully some will enlighten me as to the quality etc. Thanks again

I've loaded 10s of thousands of Lake City, but military and what I perceive as civilian ( Marked LC and 223 on bottom)
Most of mine have been range pick up stuff...was over at the range this afternoon and carried home about 250 pieces of brass, mainly Lake City. They are out in the shed, in the tumbler over night, with a shot or two of mineral spirits.

Minus any dents, they will look pretty much brand new in the morning...

Been loading some the last several weeks, for the 6 x 45 barrel I put on one of my Savage Single Shots.
Got it from Douglas in West Virginia... So far shooting real well, it really likes 28 grains of W 748. Had several one hole "three shot" groups this week over at the range...mainly using Speer 70 gr TNTs, and Speer 75 gr HPs, and 87 gr Hornady BTHPs.. just at 100 yds until I get the best powder and bullet combinations.

Got 300 rounds loaded up to go shoot Ground Squirrels in the next week or so
