My girlfriend owns a rental house in the suburbs 5 miles north of Asheville. 3 BR brick houses, 1/2 acre lots, standard subdivision.
There is a black bear that has been living in this neighborhood for 3 years. Just last week she fetched up in the back yard of the rental house with 2 little cubs.
This is a 300 pound bear! What do suburban bears eat?

Mother and three cubs spent the day in a pear tree right here in town a couple years ago. The same family was also rough on bird feeders.

Haven't heard of bears around here eating pets. That's the mountain lions. Trash cans are too easy. They don't run away. A friend of mine lived on a street that was right on the NF boundary. On trash night a couple bears would walk down the street working the trash cans like it was a food court.

Sounds like my son's neighborhood. One got in the neighbors' house, opened the fridge and had some ice cream. Funny thing is there's no bears over the mountain toward Weaverville at his girl friend's house.
