Waiting for my 25/06 to get back with its new barrel. I’ve got a few boxes of Berger 133’s but can’t find any data. I was looking at the 6.5/06 and planning to use that as a starting point. I have not yet called Berger to see if they have data but plan to tomorrow. Anyone else have a source of load data or loads they’ve tried with that combo.
I’ve got imr7977, RL23, 7828 and H4831 and a small amount of H1000 on hand.
I got an older 700 BDL a few years ago from a buddy of mine. It’s a beautiful rifle I’d say from mid 80’s( but don’t have it here with me currently to look up the numbers). It shot ok… but just ok. I shot a few deer with it but was never woo’d by it’s accuracy. So last summer while I was home for an extended time with the Rona I tried in earnest to find a load it loved. Finally just gave up and sent it off to Pac Nor for a chrome moly super match factory contour barrel with 1-9” twist. But then I saw Berger was making some 133 and 135 VLD’s in .257” so I called Pac Nor and had them change it to a 1-8” twist. The rifle has been back together for a few months but the shop that does the blueing for PN is running pretty slow. I’m hoping it shoots those long bergers well. It’d make one heck of a bean field rifle. I’ll try some 115-120 partitions too and probably some 115 BT’s and I have some 117 hornady and sierras I’ll try too. But really hoping it shoots the bergers. My goal was to just have the rifle look like it did when it was new but be able to handle longer high BC bullets. Barrel is 24”
Benbo, How did this turn out? I’m hoping to have my 25-06 back in a couple weeks with its new Brux 7.5” twist. I have some of the 133 gr elite hunters just curious how your load development turned out. Thanks
I’m out of town at the moment but I tried 133 and 135 bergers and wasn’t really satisfied by the accuracy I was getting. I don’t think it was the bullets fault. I’ve tried 100ttsx, 115&120 partitions, 117 sierra & hornady and haven’t found a load I’m pleased with. My quarter bore curse seems to continue…..haven’t played with the rifle since last fall.
This was from Berger, I was told that you can interchange the 133gr and 135gr Berger data
Thanks for sharing that data from Berger. Mine is still on the original Remington barrel and shooting 115 gr bullets just fine, but... I'll seriously consider a fast twist barrel when it's time to replace this one.
