Anybody ever hunted deer with a 6.5X50 Jap chambered gun? My dad (Army) won an Arisaka 38 in a poker game years ago from a worse player (Navy).

I left it with a relative a few years ago, and he swears I didn't. Family! Now I want one again.

Anyone here ever hunted with one? What is the largest animal you've taken at what range with what bullet?

It's only a couple of hundred fps slower than a Creed, so it should be fine. Most load data for it is pretty mild and the Arisaka is a very strong action so I'd have no qualms about loading it to modern velocity.

I have always had a liking for customized Arisakas in 6.5X50MM. Friend of mine just picked up a very nice one and I am looking forward to handling it in the flesh

I've used the 6.5X54 M-S with excellent results. I doubt you'd see much difference between the two.

My father hunted deer with an Arisaka type 38 his entire life. It was a full-length rifle with aperture sight. He killed a boatload of deer with it. Furthest was at just over 400 yards. It was an 8 point standing under an apple tree. Dropped on contact. Most were under 75 yards. He thought very highly of the 6.5.

Can ammo or brass be found?

Amma can be a challenge to find, but brass is fairly easy to find.
