Today. Our United Methodist Church will cease to exist after May 21’st. We will then be a Global Methodist Church. 99.5% of our congregation voted to exit the UNC at a cost of $85K.

The Athanasian creed is also recited at least once a year.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

Language changes, we don't say "Sitteth" anymore either.

I have never been where the creed or the Lords Prayer was recited................

Today, at least once a month. It's comforting to be part of an ancient body that stretches into the misty past as one and knowing there are two more generations of mine who've joined in as well.

We recite the Apostles Creed during Morning/Evening Prayer Morning. The Nicene Creed during the Eucharist.

The Lord's Prayer was intended to be a guideline rather than a prayer in itself. The disciples were Jews and Jewish custom was to memorize long prayers to repeat over and over. They got monotonous and the emphasis was on the prayer rather than on God. The disciples wanted to be able to pray more like Jesus did and he gave them some guidelines. Jesus taught them to give honor to God, at both the beginning and the end of the prayer, and to ask that our needs be provided. He told them to forgive others and to ask to be forgiven.

Any person's needs are different from any other person and Jesus taught them how to ask for what they need.

Last time was 5 or 6 years ago when we got a new minister who was ADD and he changed the order of worship. He eventually quit reciting the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer or the Gloria Patri. While we had been having one service per month in a “contemporary” format, he eventually went to all contemporary but you never knew what the order would be. He didn’t listen to any suggestions and we started losing life-long members.

About three years ago we got another minister who it seemed initially was going to return to the traditional order but he too, eventually flip flopped the order or eliminated parts. He was eventually replaced because he could barely walk.

The newest one has continued to try to put his mark on the service and some of the things he has professed are waaay out there!
