But you live for eternity gasping from lung cancer?

Asbestos gives lung cancer, but does not receive.

It's only bad when it's finely ground and it gets in the air to be breathed. That can really screw up your lungs. If it's in a more solid form where it can't get in the air, it's not dangerous.

This, have to be careful with the demo on VCT tile put down years back with Z-cutback adhesive. You don't want to sand that chit up.

My porch has some, I think.
I need to get it tested and removed someday.

I unload box cars of the stuff. I also mixed and mudded a bunch of the stuff and insulated steem pipe fittings with good old Eagle Pitcher Asbestos 66. That was 60 years and so far not any problems.

I was a certified asbestos abatement supervisor some years back. One of the details in the class that really stuck with me was this. 99% of all mesothelioma and lung cancer cases from asbestos exposure occurred in smokers. This was attributed to the nicotine paralyzing the cilia(little hairlike tissues in the bronchial tubes) that normally catch pollutants where they can be coughed up or removed by binding in mucous.

My guess is Scott F was/is not a smoker.

I smoked like a forest fire for years but quit 45 years ago. Now days I like a good cigar or a pipe but not every day and do not inhale.

In my navy time I was around it every day. Turned 74 last week so I think I got lucky.

I remember that the new gym in Storm Lake had this wonderful asbestos coating sprayed on its burial vault ceiling. It was finished just in time for the declaration of asbestos as a deadly substance, so had to be redone as soon as it was finished.
