I started hunting turkeys late in life, about 10 years ago. I retired this winter and for the first time shot two birds in the same year. My first season was a tough hunt with bad weather, but I managed to get it done. This season I finally got out this morning and had a tom do exactly what he was supposed to do. It must be because I went old school and didn't try to fancy it up. I used an ancient Mossberg 835 from the first year they were made and a Lynch's Foolproof box call. Sometimes the old ways still work fine.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I have found that "old school" works almost every time it's tried. Most of my turkey calls date back to when I first started turkey hunting, about 30 years ago, including a Lynch Foolproof.............and I still use lead shot.

The cow is where you are, the bull is where you want to be.

I still use a Lynch Foolproof & 2 3/4" shells. It's been working just fine for 35+ years----no reason to change what works.

Thanks everyone. And I still use 3 inch lead 5 shot, nothing fancy.
Oh wow, it only took 12 and a half years to get to 500 posts!
