Forget about all the barrel burning B.S.. It's a hunting gun. If you are really knocking stuff dead you'll shoot it 20 to 30 times a year. After 40 years, it might need a new barrel. Plus, even if you roll your own it's still an expensive cartridge to load. Or if you shoot factory, you'll spend more on ammo than you did the gun. Shoot a 140 out of it and have fun. Recoil is like a 270 if you buy an accumark. Won't need a brake on it. If you are worried about barrel life, it'll go sub 1 inch for 1000 rounds easy.

With this one and the 26 Nosler, ya bout gotta reload.

869 and Vv 570 also work well.

I use 869 and 140 ballistic tips in my 26 Nosler. Shot a dozen big pigs, ballistic tips went through both shoulders to places unknown. Recoil was nothing.

869 is awesome in this cartridge. Re-25 ain't bad. 7828, 4831. Just depends on bullet weight. I ended up getting one after wanting a 6.5 stw. Smith told me to just buy a 26 nosler or 6.5x300. Either way you won't tell the difference after the shot. Although a 6.5x 300 win mag would be awesome.

26 Nos and 6.5-300 are pretty close. Good rounds, just use a lot of powder. My 26 shows some throat erosion thru the Hawkeye after less than 500 rounds. It still shoots sub MOA.

I’m guessing a barrel life of a thousand rounds or so. I burned most powder working up loads, won’t be shooting that much hunting. Barrel should last me a while.

869 is about a classic powder for that round, Vv 570 edged it a bit on velocity. They say those high performance Vv powders burn pretty hot and may erode throats faster than conventional powders. The velocity edge may not be worth the reported enhanced barrel wear.
