Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Been using dots since Aimpoint came out with them 50 years ago. Competition, target, hunting. Smaller dot may give smaller groups used of a rest, but over all the bigger dots work better. Biggest advantage of dots are for fast follow up shots. Sort of the old German cross hair argument. (Not getting into low recoil NFA select fire weapons here). Most problems with shooters and dots is the shooter trying to center the dot in the field of view, much like a peep site. Learn to shoot with it at any location in the field of view.

What do you want quick acquisition or precise shooting? This is a 6.5 moa dot at 10 yards, 5 shots at a pretty good pace. I’m not sure for my purposes how much more precise I’d need to be at rational self-defense distances

I shot the best 10 shots of my life this weekend in a class with a 5MOA dot. The dot was about the size of the X ring and I called the one flier. 25 yards / 10 shots / 5 MOA Dot 100--9x Staccato XC and a 5 MOA SRO That’s not much of a “flyer”. 😁
