Have a Remington 33 single shot that was my granddads….got it when he passed away in 1965. Have a problem with it…..shoots like 3 inches high at 25 yds.with iron sights and the rear does not have even have the elevation bar for it, so have to aim 3 inches low at 25 yds. I need a taller front sight….but do not know how much taller or how to measure how tall mine is. Need some help.

The distance from bead to the V on the sight is 21 3/8", and from the bead to where the rear sight is attached to the barrel is 19 2/8". Barrel is 24".

The front sight should be 0.07154" taller than the one you have now.

First, see if you can find an elevation bar on Ebay, GB, etc.

I do have the elevation bar but it is not on it….took it off because it raised the sight at the lowest possible setting, thus raising the shot. I should have said I had the bar in my post but do not use it, sorry.

Do you mean if I replace my front sight with a taller one it should be 0.07154” taller? If ordering a front sight from Numrich, Midway, Brownells, what size or height should I ask for?

It would behoove you to go a bit higher than HC advised so you have a little wiggle room for different loads. When I replace a front sight, I zero it at the middle elevation setting so I can go up or down as needed.

The Skinner Sights website is a great place to find what you need. They make widths and heights for just about all applications, and their brass sights are especially easy to fit. If you don’t like the color, a paint pen will fix that easily. I buy the paint pens from Amazon for a fraction of what Skinner charges.

First put the elevator back in then,
Ask Google, formulas and charts are available on the net, Brownells used to have an excellent one in their catalog and likely still do online, as do other companies that sell sights.

Pappy 348, just ordered a front sight from Numrich.....suppose to be taller than one I have and with the elevator should be able to zero it at the middle elevation as you suggested. Thanks much.

Hope it works out for you. The Skinners are flat-topped blades like I prefer and easy to file down or even cut down with a fine-toothed saw such as Exacto makes.
