In your opinion, what is the best AR-10 on the market today? What is the best optic to put on top of that rifle? Please use your personal definition of "best" to make this determination.

"Best", is what works best for your needs, or is the most suitable for your uses and one that you can ultimately afford. To me, my "best" will definitely not be another guys best. That is a highly subjective term. Especially when it comes to AR10/AR308 style rifles. I will say that the one I am left with works very well for my needs. Really like it:

You also know you are asking for trouble when asking which is the "best" optic for said rifle. As you can see in the pic above, it wears a NF rifle scope. Is that the "best"? Maybe not for some, but it's suitable for my needs..

IMO, the best AR-308 is a POF Revolution in either DI or PD. Most AR-308's start at 8.5 lbs or more. When you add optics, full 10 rd mag and a sling, you're hauling around a rifle that's nearly 12 lbs.

The POF Revolution starts at 6.8 Lbs.

Even a light-ish AR10 can indeed get heavy pretty quickly. I'd start as light as possible if looking for a general-purpose hunting rifle.

Once I built my first AR15 I just couldn't get next to the idea of buying another pre-built. I'd much rather choose a decent upper and lower, a great barrel, a fine trigger and a good BCG then finish it off with whatever strikes me as a good idea at the time. I bought my first LR-308 several months ago, built by someone who didn't get it right. After basically rebuilding it I decided to build another (one is for day and one is for night), and I am very happy with both. My optic for the night gun is an AGM thermal and for the day gun I mounted a weaver Super Slam in 3-15x50 flavor. That suits me, but we all gotta suit our own selves. I'd just choose something that you like and you feel like suits your purposes, then go kill stuff and be happy.

Armalite AR-10 with two uppers, a 260 and a 308, both have 4x12 Japanese MPZ (military and police) glass, one is a 40mm the other is a 56mm, both with mill dot lit reticles, both have 12 ball bearing on each knob w coil springs. They both shoot well under 1/2". The 260 shoots a lot flatter at 3,200 fps, is like magic for silhouette shooting with 120 SMKs These have McGowan match 1-8 and 1-10 SS barrels.

I had an Armalite A2 it was ok, but chewed the rim on extraction. I now have a flattop DPMS and have had no issues with it. Not really a .308 fan, so probably haven’t fired more than 2 magazines.
