Oh wow, you've seen an elk.

Too bad you'll never hunt one.

I love hunting elk, my favorite big game animal. I hate to have to point this out but, whether you've seen and/or hunted elk is a good indicator of.....

Nothing.

Going to have to disagree. If you're good at hunting elk, it's a good indicator of a freezer full of high quality elk meat.

And if you've lived your whole life in a state with no elk, it means diddly.

Meh, I know lots of folks that live in states with no elk and/or very little opportunity that still hunt elk every year.

Your state is full of them every fall.

Too many of them in fact. But lots of people are content to hunt near home and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. The fact that you feel the need to denigrate them says more about you than them.

It's not a good look, especially for someone who seems to be a spokesman for an organization. Shades of John Burns.

I hunt a majority of the time within a couple hours of my double wide, I agree.

Just hilarious listening to them opine about elk hunting and a corner crossing, both of which they're clueless about.

Trout, mountains and Virginia in the same sentence still cracks me up though.

You also planning that elk hunt when you retire?

Maybe you and earlybrd can car pool to your first elk hunt in 2050.

I love to go out west and see the wildlife, mainly the bison and elk, but I wouldn't think about shooting one and then dealing with the trouble and expense of transporting all that meat over 1000 miles to get home. We have more deer than you can shake a stick at and as far as bison meat, if I get to thinking I want that I can kill a grass fed bull yearling out of the cattle herd and you couldn't tell the difference.

Killing stuff in another state would just screw up an otherwise enjoyable trip. Elk is good enough meat but not worth the expense and trouble to me.

Not surprising, we don't have high fence elk "hunting" in Wyoming.

I get that, don't blame you.

I think its worth the trouble, though. I travel and fish AK every year and transport 100-150lbs of halibut, lingcod, rockfish, salmon back home. Just bought plane tickets a couple nights ago for August.

It is a pain in the neck, but well worth it and just a smidge better than Virginia trout from the "mountains".
