This is a very nice Dark Curly Maple 6" Frontier butcher knife by Josh Clarke.

Folks asked for a more compact version of his 7" butcher style knife, so here is a new 6" version. It's a bit handier in the hand and in the belt , but still large enough for any task. These are great knives to have around at Barbeques and camp kitchens since they are great all around food prep knives.

The knife is 11.5 long with a 6" blade. These are flat ground from US made 1095 steel and are 1/8" thick at the spine. It is ground thin with a hand rubbed satin finish with a swedge ground tip . Joshua's deeply stamped "Broadsword" maker's mark is on the blade.. It has an industrial grade heat treat at 58 Rockwell and hold an edge well yet are tough and easy to sharpen.

The handle design is the Classic round tapered French trade pattern .The handle is a full 4.5" long with a slight taper and should fit just about any hand size well. Amazingly, this knife and sheath combo weighs less than 8 ounces complete, so it will still be light on your belt.

This knife has very nice bookmatched Curly Maple scales that have been stained a rich "Flintlock Brown" color. They are attached with Brownell's Accraglass with heavy gauge hand set brass pins with a 1/4" lanyard tube at the rear. .They are then finished with Josh's blend of Marine grade Spar varnish and Tung oil for a traditional looking and weatherproof finish.

The knife comes with one of Josh's Shop built hand sewn Hermann Oak veg tanned saddle stitched sheaths with full welt

I have 2 of the 3 knives, the rifleman's axe and the tomahawk. Hopefully I can score one of the new clip point knives before long.

A heavy duty one of these from 3/16 stock would be a dandy bushcrafter/all arounder. Get him to whip up one of those and call me first.

Guys.. Don't want to get into a debate here on blade thickness but I know for a fact when it comes to cutting tools like knives, Josh does not want to ever go too thick.

The butcher knife blade shown here is only about 1.25" at is widest. Going 3/16" is simply too thick to be a good cutting geometry in a blade that small.

He is working on a larger Blade knife in 3/16 " steel he calls the "Rocky Mountain" knife. It is a version of the Fur trade era Camp knives similar to a Hudson bay pattern. The knife will be 13" long with a 1.9" tall x 7" long blade with a good belly and a Clip point.

I have seen the blade blanks ready for grinding and it looks like a really fun useful knife.
