In my opinion built from 38 years in the business, the high grade Muni bonds are the safest instrument one can buy. If you are in a tax bracket of 30% or higher you can get with a homework an even higher after tax yield then CD’s are paying you now. Why, because there’s a higher risk with Banks these days. There are 10 banks right this moment that have FDIC coverage from $2.5 million to $8 million the different coverage is 100% derived from the titling of your account. One poster stated the Capital markets are rigged, he is point blank not just wrong but uneducated as well. Do you think his children are likely to ever have a chance of seeing the real picture of wealth? I don’t. Most likely he wasn’t taught himself, please let him motivate you to take the time to teach them whatever you may have learned. No one else will love them enough to take the time and effort needed.

Back when CD rates were in the 17% range (1980’s), didn’t rates exceed the inflation rate? My quick search indicates that they did.

You have to ask your wife for money?

You must be one of those guys who come to me asking if they can pay for a gun with $20 per month (their allowance).

This^. Especially if there’s another rate hike today and and even more so if we see another (D) administration in the WH in ‘24

I remember Mortgage rates in the 17% range but CD's never exceeded 12%. If they ever hit that again my so called Fidelity Wealth Advisor will be crying because I will cash part of it just to buy up CD's .

Serious question... do you actually believe what you just typed?

Inflation is measured in the markets as annualized after each reporting, inflation is above 4% currently and while I did not look today I believe the last measure I looked at was 6.25% annualized run rate.

Arm chair I stand corrected, it has come down from 9.1 to 4% the Fed chair announced today.

Not saying you are wrong, just that I play differently in these uncharted waters.

Good luck to both of us.
