Have you fondled them both?

In my biased opinion...yup.

I like my Tikkas....never had/used a Sako...same barrels used on both...both very accurate & super slick actions...built in same factory....$500 difference or more...? That would buy a half decent scope....Thats why I like Tikka...both are very effective rifles...here's my 595 7-08 [Linked Image]

Tikka's are great rifles for the money.

Sako's are great rifles.

Both rifles have their place, and differing characteristics, with accuracy being shared. If over 1K is not a deal breaker, then look with each offers. Light-weight, value and accuracy: Tikka. Fit and finish, heirloom quality, and accuracy: Sako. Both have deserved reps for accuracy but if I was going to bet which would shoot the best out of the box, I would pick the Tikka. They feel different in my hands so somplace where you can check both out would be a good trip to make.

I own both......I like both.

One's just a bit fancier than the other, but does no more, no less than the less fancy.

Truly, both are reliable, accurate and would finish any task you ask of 'em.

I'd be more worried about human failings more so than with either of these 2 choices havin' issues.

So money wise..........good scopes don't come cheap either.

Do you want plastic for a magazine or do you want metal? Like another has said, it a Caddy-Chevy thing. I went the Sako route as they were closing out the 75s and I save a few hundred...I got what I felt was the best of both worlds...Price and prestige (not to mention accuracy).

if the sako can realistically shoot as well as a tikka on a consistent basis I could see it worth the money. if the tikka just had an internal mag instead of a clip, I think I would change all my rifles out for tikkas

Why would the Sako not shoot as well? It's the same barrel and the actions are pretty straight.

Yes ..one of the objectionable things is the small reciever opening on a tikka . Try loading one up with gloves on. You have to pretty much remove the magazine to do it. I don't like the one size fits all action length. Are they made side by side I don't think so and is probably an internet rumor. They bought out Tikka a few years back and the actions have nothing in common. Accuracy guarantee is 3 under 1" for the Tikka and 5 under 1" for the Sako. Any Sako I have owned has easily beaten its accuracy guarantee.

From what I've read, Sako guarantees 5 shots into an inch with factory ammo, Tikka guarantees 3 shots into an inch. Sako holds 5 30-06 class cartridges in the magazine, Tikka's hold 3 in the magazine.

I can't see why the composite (plastic) magazine would be an issue - it seemed very durable and well made to me. More of an issue, is the single-stacking and smaller capacity, at least to me. I'd think if you broke it while hunting - you'd have to under a rock slide or something, and then, the broken clip would be the least of your worries.

When I came back from Canada the airlines lost my Tikka for 2 days. I was somewhat upset though thankful it was lost after the hunt rather than before.

If it had been a Sako I would have been 3 times more upset. So I feel the Tikka is all I need. If an occasion ever comes up where I need something prettier I will just take my Win 70 Supergrade.

A benchrester friend of mine has been to the Sako factory. He said that the Sako bolt is made from one piece of steel, whereas the Tikka bolt is made up of 3 pieces , namely the bolt face, body and the handle.

I was looking at both models last week. I thought the T3 blued/timber shouldered/felt/balanced the best, even slightly better than the 85 Bavarian(Deluxe true palm swell model).
The timbered T3 has a slight palm swell(as does the synthetics. great design which works for me. just like the Bavarian only not as pronounced).
IMO the T3 represents a great deal for ones hard earned$$$.

Although I would of liked to see a one-piece bolt/handle design! That dovetail join does move over time(I have seen this first hand on a 338WM/695). It's no train wreck, but it does get some slight slop over time.
That's my only gripe. But saying that, it's half the price of the Sako. So corners have too be cut!

I'm getting a T3 over the Sako myself. Only because I have a R93 as my No.1 rig. The T3 will be my backup use & abuse.
