I am a very proud grampa!

The Ontario Catholic school board awards Graduate Expectation medals to grade 8 students in seven categories. My grandson won for being a self-directed, responsible, lifelong learner. What that means is he works hard at, and demonstrates his God-given potential - despite personal obstacles. He is autistic and struggles (but wins) at his studies. His brother Shawn won the same award when he graduated from OLG. Now, we've got two medal winners in the family!

Thanks everyone. This thread is about my grandson, but one short story about what happened after the ceremony was over.

We were outside chatting and taking pictures when I was approached by a guy and his wife. He stuck out his hand and said, "Mr. Redgwell? You probably don't remember me. I was in your class 15 years ago. Now, I'm back at the school teaching myself!"

You know the years are ticking by when something like that happens. We talked for about five minutes and took off after the kids.

Last night was not only about making memories, but also about remembering that we are all about the community of man.

Good for him! Striving is one of the qualities that I admire the most.

Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.

Thanks again. I took my grandson camping on Friday, but we came back early. Heavy rain and thunderstorms were forecast. He was disappointed that we were only there for two days, but we drove through part of the storm as it tracked south.

He said he was glad to be home when my daughter asked him about our trip. He told mommy that he didn't have enough dry clothes. 😃
