Got a new shimano Cardiff, spool won’t reel, just free spools. Adjusted the drag, the tension knob, nothing helps. Any ideas? Thanks
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Not sure I will be of any help but I buddy of mine had the same problem. He read online to take the side plate off, hold the thumb bar up and reassemble with the thumb bar in the up position. It worked for him.

Ya did that, thumb bar engages/disengages properly with the crank. Pretty weird. Brought some extras thank god. Looked it up, I’ll send it back to their repair center in California when I get home.

Reel Ex.com, Dan Issac, 650 454 4938. He's an ex Shimano tech. He might give you some info that'll help. I found them helpful on a question I had on a Shimano reel.
