What do y'all think of the Remington 700 of today (RemArms) vs the current Bergara B14 action? Any reason one would be technically better than the other? Safer, more robust, etc?
I've had each...had some not so flattering things to say about the Bergara because of its pot metal bolt shroud, although its been replaced with a new version since.
Thinking of one or the other. They both have about the same upgrade potential but curious to hear what people think of their strengths/weaknesses.
But I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, The last of Barrett's Privateers

I'd be interested in feedback on this too. I've heard good things about some of the new Rem Arms rifles but have no personal experience.

I've seen a couple of the new Remarms rifles and the ones I've seen were exceptionally well put together and felt great in hand. Wood was very nice and the fit and finish was first class IMO. Haven't had a chance to fire one yet but I can't imagine they would screw that up

I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

I have a Bergara Wilderness Hunter in .308. First, it's incredibly accurate; second, the action is way smoother than a 700.

I haven’t had anything from the latest Remington resurrection. I’d probably feel better about it if they just let the name die, since they’ve trashed the rep so bad. Bob’s Model 700 would seem more palatable. The sample of one Bergara I had, there were no complaints. Even the bolt shroud didn’t really bother me….not sure I liked the tacky finish on the stock it had. Just cosmetics, though. I’ve not personally had major issues with 700s, though I’ve tinkered on a few for friends that did. There was a bad run of M24s that we got in for our scout platoons at the 101st around 1999-2000, that about 1 in 3 had to go back to Remington over receiver, bolt, and headspace/chambering being badly out of spec. Aside from that, I may have felt a 700 needed some TLC for smooth or fit….but have always been dependable for their task.

This is hard for me to admit but I have never owned a Remington 700 despite living less than 100 miles from Ilion. In fact the only Remington I have ever owned is a 104 year old model 14 in 30 rem. I have not found or handled a new 700. I have handled several Bergara's which fit and balanced fine. Also have not shot either. I have hunted with several Browning rifles new and old (FN) models. My favorite bolt actions are my Mannlicher Schoenauer model 1905 and a customer mauser 98 in 7x57 made in Germany in 1940. I have not found a new bolt action that has any soul yet.

My rifles are for stealing souls, not their content there in.

I’d go with the Bergara if stainless wasn’t a requirement.
