I've recently acquired a Remington model 14 in 30 Rem. and I want to try pointy bullets through this nifty spiral magazine! Are there any real-world experiences of such efforts been written about?

I was surprised by two things here;

..., there's no Remington-specific groups here on the 'fire?

and,

I could only find salesman rhetoric online about the 14/141 spiral magazine's capability with pointy bullets, no real-world experiences,

there must be someone who's actually done it, and written about it!

I've read that they work perfectly if mechanically sound. I'll be reading here to see if there's confirmation.

You know it got brought up that hornady's ftx pointy bullets sometimes jam straight magazines. Just as a point of reference I don't know if sharp point bullets might not be worse in the spiral mag. But by all means try it and if they blow up and you can still type get back to us and report your experiment.

i have a Remington m14 in 30 Remington too!!! i've heard of that, but i never did it.

you can always load one in the chamber and put one in the magazine tube.

the smartest thing i've done for while, is i took the m14 to a gunsmith and said the m14 needs a good cleaning, aka strip her down to parts and pieces, clean her and put her back together again. i'd do it, but i'd had a stroke years ago and my right arm/leg went kaput.

I've run several kinds of pointy bullets through my wife's 141 .30 Reminton, and they work fine if the seating depth is correct.

I spent a bit of time on the above mentioned forum, reading some past posts by this fellow who seems to have some bit of model 14/141 experience:

"I am NOT the world authority on the Model 14 but I have been repairing them for thirty-five (35) years with a high degree of success! I will try to make this short in that you should NEVER use anything but round nose ammunition with these cartridges (all calibers), OACL is critical, and don't think for a minute you can get by with just "neck sizing" the case.
Using ROUND NOSE bullets & pristene brass is not my opinion, it is fact.

Here is the exact wording on the back of the "hang tags" that were attached to every one of the Model 14's:

IMPORTANT
Ammunition with pointed bullets
should not be used in this rifle,
except when loaded by hand into
the chamber.

I hope some will find this helpful!"

JeffG,

No, they're not. I had an article on the subject in my line-up for Handloader, but when I decided to retire from Wolfe last fall after turning 70 it was still on the list--not done.
