Anyone familiar with the Montana Mount? I recently acquired one that has bases marked for the Savage 99, however they do it fit any savage of mine. The mount is identified on the box as fitting Savage 99s and Super Sporters, Enfields and Springfields, and I figure it was sold sometime in the post WWII years. The mount consists of the the two bases and a (coil) spring loaded center piece assembly that holds the rings in place. As far as I can tell, the center piece relies on spring tension to put pressure against the bases for holding everything in place. The mount looks vaguely familiar and I think it has been discussed here before. However, any information you guys may have on it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Certainly, but I’ve always been challenged when it comes to posting pictures on this website. I can use some instructions or send them to somebody who is much better than I am with posting pictures.

I have several Montana Mounts and could send you a copy of the instructions if that would help you.
I know that they are in a box on a shelf, but not which box or which shelf, so it would take some time and I am notoriously slow.

The instructions would be interesting from an academic point, but I will not be mounting these on a 99. The bases I got are not correct for the 99 and I certainly wouldn’t be drilling an unadulterated rifle if I were ever to come across a set. I’m just interested in how they mounted and when they were made. And since they are part of the 99’s history I figured there would be others on this site with the same curiosity.

You know the drill... "We need pics" I first read your post, in my email, as "you know how to use a drill." LOL.
