22 Creedmoor will be my next build………after I get done playing with my 308’s which may be a while.
I do have lots of 22 Creedmoor brass though. I love it. Load up on brass so you are forced to build another rifle. Why didn’t I think of that. DF

I didn't have a 6mm rifle until after I acquired a good quantity of vintage Sierra bullets as part of a larger deal. Now my 243 is a favorite.

An even less expensive way to get there is to buy a set of dies. You're under $50 into the "gotta build/buy a new XXX for these dies". In the mid-90s I was hoping to build a .338-06, and I was shopping around for a barrel maker. I was in Wisconsin at the time, so there were quite a few "local" options for barrel makers. My dentist, at the time, was an avid long-range shooter and suggested that I give Obermeyer a call. I asked Boots a couple of barrel-related questions, and he said he probably didn't have the time to make a barrel for me. He said he was already knee-deep in some custom work for Weatherby and something for the military, but posed a question to me. He said something to the effect that his willingness to make me a barrel depended on how I answered his question. He asked, "suppose you find a really good deal on a set of dies at a gun show, but you don't have anything that shoots that particular cartridge. What do you do?" I responded that I'd buy the dies, because they were a good deal, and having the dies would give me a good reason to look for another rifle. Then he asked, "what kind of barrel would you like me to make?" I ended up getting a Krieger barrel for my .338-06, because they could deliver one faster, but I always enjoyed my conversation with Boots.
Thoroughly enjoying Alaska since 2001.

Still waiting on the barrel for mine. I've got the action, the trigger, the rail and rings, the scope, the brass, bullets and dies. Still haven't ordered the stock but kind of hoping that I'll spot a used McSwirly Mtn Rifle I like at a good price. If not I'll go ahead and order a Grayboe in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Anticipation kinda sucks.
Nice looking rifle, looks like it's gonna be a shooter.

I got 80 rounds down the barrel and my neighbor called and said he was going to chronograph some loads so I went up and took the 22 Creed and the 22-250 AI with about 150 rounds fired.
Only shot 5 shots out of the 22 Creed with 39 grains of RL-17 and 88 ELD-M's. With those 5 shots a guy really has no idea where SD is actually going to land but it averaged 3190 FPS, with a SD of 16.
On the other hand it was 85 degrees out and the 22-250 AI really sped up. To the point that opening the bolt took a little effort, not hard to open but harder than it was. With the exact powder charge of the same powder 39 grains of RL-17 and the same bullet 88 ELD-M it averaged 3245 with a 5 shot SD of 14. I am not sure if the raise in velocity is temperature related or the barrel just sped up. Either way I need to back off a bit and am not looking forward to pulling about 80 bullets. RL 17 seems to really shoot well in both rifles but if you want to try it I would start at about 36.0 and work up from there.
I don't think there is a nickels worth of difference in the 2 cartridges but I do prefer the Montana over the MPI stocked 700.
The 22 Creed is a 22" Pac-Nor and the 22-250 AI is a 22" Lilja, both 1-7 twist

3 quick ones at 38.0. About 3/8th". Bolt lift is back to normal at that load.
