We are becoming a poorer nation, which makes us feel the prices of things going up. If our real wealth were going up along with the prices, we wouldn't notice. The reason we're becoming poorer is that our wealth is being siphoned off by an elite class via various mechanisms designed for that purpose, to include the fiat currency and fractional reserve banking systems. The rate at which we are becoming poorer has accelerated in the last ten years or so, which is why we seem to perceive it more in the prices of the things we are accustomed to being able to easily afford, but now find it much harder.

No doubt about it

Depending on game hunted I would buy one of the following: .30-06, .308, .30-30, 6.5 Creedmor, .243.

Take your SAA Colt .45 to the range with 100 rounds of ammo (two boxes), that's over a hundred dollars gone.

Yup, the ammo prices are way up there and I doubt we will see them go down. The mfgs are in the money making business, not the ammo making business. Same goes for the component makers and suppliers.

Ruger makes wonderful boomer toy in form of Blackhawk Convertible .45ACP and .45 LC. For range use there is .45 ACP cylinder. Best price is Speer Lawman 230gr TMJ at $21.95 +tax per box of 50. The LC cylinder is for them Bear Loads to be carried while hiking in Grizzland. Used Ruger not inexpensive at $700+, but well worth tracking up and buying. Word of caution, unlike Colts or S&Ws many Rugers were actually shot by previous owners, therefore, more then cursory examination is called for.

PS. I forgot to mention, working version of Randall knife is called Blackhack Knife usually made by Bark River Knife Company. They make real good knives for money spent, not mass-produced stuff like: Buck, Gerber,.... For many boomers Blackjack should be better choice, because they will not have to wait years to get one. As they say youth is not forever and old age is no joy.

I did bulk reloading for all my guns... back when I figured Hitlary had Trump beat... Haven't looked at much ammo since... WTF is going on? $65 for a box of basic ammo? I only went to Midway for some .358W dies to overream for my new 93Jimbo cartridge... You figured she had trump beat? You bet on the losing horse now your [bleep]

let's make ammo too expensive equals less competitive shooters which also equals less skill
my skill equals less adequate hunters.

less adequate hunters last resistance with firearms The average LEO couldn’t compete in any shooting competition with those in the sport. The average LEO is issued minuscule amounts of ammo on their person and in their cars Sad
The people wringing their hands over Trump's rhetoric don't know what time it is in America.
