This book is about a group of Coast Guardsmen who are not widely known. The Coast Guard has a long history of interdiction of illicit goods coming into the US. Drugs have been a major issue for the last 40+ years and the sea interdictions are widely known. This book, from 2010, is about the Coast Guard Special Forces- a group created to fight the drug wars on the ground in South America. The Department of Defense was prevented by law from engaging on the ground so this group was created and was in existence for just a few years. It didn't survive a change in Commandant at headquarters. The mission changed from direct action to training and the stories of their exploits are all that survive of the Coast Guard Special Forces.
The coasties trained as Special Forces and dressed the part and did those jobs.
An interesting book for anyone interested in such things. I learned of these men about 20 years ago from my former XO but didn't hear about the book untl recently.
