Hello all, looking for some help. My father has a Browning pre-81 lever action in .308 he bought brand new in 1975. It has been his only hunting rifle up until a couple years ago. A few years ago he had an uncle "refinish: it and it looks like ass. He sanded down most of the checkering and finished it with an awful tru oil finish that is chipping. He asked me a couple years ago to have it refinished and find new stocks for it. Midwest Gun Works had all the remaining inventory of parts for these guns but do not have any stocks of forearms left and will never be getting any.

Would anyone here know of another possible source, have a set they want to sell themselves or have some other idea for me?

Thank you in advance,

Mark

I sold the only new set I had about a year ago. I believe I have a matching stock and forearm that have been stripped, not sanded. That is some tough furniture to find!

I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

I realize it wouldn't be a wood finish, but autobody filler works well to smooth out the checkering and the scratch filler they use for smoothing it out. A member here does some nice painting or you can have it dipped. Not saying to give up but an affordable option.
If you do find some nice replacement wood I may be interested in yours for a project.

Thank you all for the replied. I'm guessing someone who really knows what they are doing could possible repair these stocks, re-checker, etc. but would be nice to find a new set but know that I should have ordered them when Midwest still had them. 160user sending you a PM about the set you have if you might be interested in parting with them.

Try ARTS Gunshop in Missouri.
He's the best and most complete Browning shop I know of.
Good luck,
