These were Fords first "big" tractor, actually rather both experimental and innovative. They only made them for a few years, before the 5000 came along.

I have an 1850 Oliver in my barn. I used to use it as a substitute for a UTV. Since I bought my UTV it only gets started a few times a year.

Fluid but doubt water.

May not be filled now but bet the rot is from fluid, possibly calcium chloride.

More than likely calcium

My grandpa bought a 35 gas and a 35 diesel in the early 60’s. My uncle has them now and both are still running strong. Great little tractors.

I worked in a tire shop as a young man and filled many a tire with calcium chloride. ON one particular day I spilled liquid calcium chloride on my new leather boots. Within hours they had shrunk at least 2 sizes while still on my feet. I didn't dare take them off until I got home from work. I could never get them back on again.

That model ferguson usually has a "Standard" diesel engine which is made in England and parts can be really difficult. If it should have the Perkins it would have sold quickly.

Left a very nice MF 230 diesel (Perkins), including 3 implements, with the place we sold up in NM a couple of years ago. Hated to leave it behind but it helped sell the place and already was bringing a newer one down here - and wound up buying a nice older JD 970 (Yanmar diesel) bucket/backhoe after we got here.

Tractors are big enjoyment to use and fun to maintain - although was not much thinking that way when rebuilding the hyd pump/valve assembly under the seat of that 230, and later when the thing was in 3 big pieces while installing a new governor and oil pump.

There is not a job demand here for mine right now, but think I will fire it up tomorrow just for fun.

Probably wasn't his to begin with. His dad probably died and that's how he got it.

I'll make you a racehorse deal on a MF 180 with a Perkins engine if you're up for a little road trip about 65 miles south of Nashville.

Boobie Bungalow close around 10 years ago. Still used as a reference point by lots of folks though. I hunt a few miles from there and my wife always asks if I am going there when I leave to hunt.

That looks exactly like my old tractor. Based on SN mine was 1959. The seat in the photo is definitely not original! Ha
Once mine started the Leaking Trifecta (oil, diesel, hydraulic) I sold it. No regrets

I stopped in there years ago when they had just opened, I wanted a t-shirt but they didn't have any - everyone needs a boobie bungalow t-shirt
