Were these ever sold in the US as a component not just loaded ammo? If they were when was production & sales stopped?

Yes and probably discontinued when Winchester/Western stopped loading the 303 Sav. in the 90's.

I have several Winchester reloading booklets from the 1980's and the only Winchester "proprietary" bullets listed in the .303 Savage load data is for the 150 and 170 grain PPFN
also known as the Power Point Flat Nose semi jacketed bullets. These are the same bulk packaged Winchester bullets used for reloading the .30WCF and .303 Savage.

I have loaded 303 Sav,190's in the white pony rider box which was 1981-1991

The next box change was to the silver pony rider which ran from 1992-1996. Winchester was still loading the 303 Sav but I don't know if the 190 ST was still available. Anyone have a box?

Thanks gentleman. the 303 sav was never popular down here not many around at all but it seems to have been pretty popular in US so was surprised this projectile was not more freely available.

Would be interesting to some boxes of later ammo or components

I have never seen the win 303's in the silver box .

I have some 190gr ST bullets but I have no idea what vintage . I found them @ a show .. no box ..

I've been asking for a .310 190gr SPRN from everyone. Other than Contract Custom I've found nothing that isn't cost prohibitive to me.

There is a .311 220gr that Hornady is loading for a sub sonic 7.62 x 39 round. Web page states .308 but email from Hornady confirmed web page wrong and it is a .311 pill. Perhaps I can get a work up for that if OAL works

I got ten boxes of these 190's from Roy a few years ago. Last I talked to him I don't think he had more to sell? Don't know if this helps with component sales?

I think the combined Winchester/Western marking was around 1980-1982.

Because that was what the Savage was designed for. .308 bore, w/ .310 "tight" fitting bullets. If you mic. early ammo you will verify for your self. Or read West's book. Increased pressure, increased performance

Ammo makers got sick of carrying spl. pills for Savage and either dropped them or loaded with .308 pills, thus dropping ballistics to a 30-30 twin

Also, rivalry between Companies was huge then. Savage never loaded their own ammo. If your competition can turn a profit making your ammo, plus kick you in the ballz by reducing its ballistics, red letter day for them.

Yeah but they quit that nonsense pretty quickly. It wasn't because others were tired of carrying special "pills" (what, aspirins?) but rather the whole "increased pressure, increased performance" was superfluous hype.

Different manufacturers used different bullets for the 303 Savage. I once had a pic out of a book showing different manufacturers bullets for the 303 Savage and their diameters, and it surprised me that some early ones were .308. Wish I could find that picture..

Basically it's about pressures. Use a .308 or .311, just keep the thing in the right pressure range and shouldn't be any problems. Probably shouldn't use 30-30 data for .311 bullets tho, so have to find old data.

I take special pills. My Dr prescribes them

If you are just looking for 303 Savage suitable 190s in general, BCR and Graf both have the 190gr Barnes original FP in stock right now. I'm not sure if either of those stores do international orders/shipping, though.
